The call of God

“Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD” – Haggai 1.8

Most often in the Bible when God makes a call for the people to build, He is meticulous in the description of the project, materials to be used, dimensions of the structures and detailed even to the selection of the craftsmen. Every house has an architectural design or blueprint which models the drawing of the building to scale and detailing all expected peripheral and fixtures.

Though every house is built by someone the builder of all things is God. When God calls us to build, we are on assignment to build according to pattern. The pattern is a shadow or the replication of God’s actual design. God is a master builder and at various times has commissioned several building assignments such as the building of the ark by Noah (Genesis 6: 14 – 16), the Tabernacle, Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 31:6-11), Temple (Exodus 25:1-2, 8-9).

However, God’s most important masterpiece till date is the creation of mankind. I Corinthians 3: 9,16a echoes the truth that we are God’s building and temple. We are God’s workmanship created to accomplish his preordained master plan. God’s master plan is that we should replicate his kingdom and dominion here on earth. In the Lord’s prayer, we declare as follows, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”.

Our success in executing God’s plan is based on our ability to be focused on the individual assignment he has commanded us to do. In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25: 14 -30), we see the story of a master embarking on a journey and entrusted to his servants’ different talents according to their abilities. The talents represent distinct assignments according to the grace dimension of each steward. A good steward is one who has masterfully applied himself in his own calling; he is steadfast, not easily swayed by other’s assignments and achievements and always abounding in the work God has ordained him to do.

1 Corinthians 3: 12 identifies the different materials that could be utilized in the construction of a building (gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble). Every assignment has its unique honour. As an obedient servant, we must learn to stay within the course of our assignment and not break ranks. The prize is only for those that have delivered based on the accuracy of their individual assignments. Jeremiah 1:5 states the exact assignment God ordained Jeremiah to carry out, he was created to be a prophet unto the nations.

When we break ranks in our assignments and neglect to do the work God has ordained us to do, we don’t just affect our own selves but also cause an upset in the rhythmic work of ministering towards building up Christ’s body. We have been individually gifted so that in our precise cut, we are able to fit accurately and act together with other believers like a jigsaw puzzle. Our work is only commendable when we deliver as He has instructed us (Exodus 31:11b……The craftsmen must make everything as I have commanded you).

As a believer in Christ, your existence is an answer to the chaos on this earth. For we have been called to be co-labourers in God’s service. Your assignment matters with God and has value. Let no man or nothing dissuade you or cause you to despise your work. You need to place value on the assignment God has called you to do and don’t allow intimidation either from internal or external source to belittle you. When God called Moses, Jeremiah, Joshua, they considered themselves inconsequential and not worthy to be used. God saw the fullness of their abilities and disregarded all the naysaying about being unqualified.

The call of God strips off every limitation that you think about yourself; he who called you is faithful and just to bring his purpose in you to fruition. As long as you stay connected to God, there is more to your unveiling. As living stones, you are daily fashioned to fit into his perfect will. As God promised these men of old; to Moses, I will make you a God before Pharaoh; to Jeremiah, I will make you a fortified city, iron pillar and bronzed walls against the whole land; to Joshua, no man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life.

God is in need of obedient end time soldiers and will cover up your limitations so that you can focus on your assignment of delivering his kingdom agenda here on earth. Dearly beloved of God, I encourage you to lay down your inhibition and join the Lord’s army who whilst building the wall still held on to their weapon.

You matter.
